ART RESIDENCY PROGRAMS

STOP-MOTION

A film technique where you take one picture at a time of object(s) in different positions - that when played together gives the appearance of movement.

STOP MOTION RESIDENCY

In a series of workshops, we lead students through the design process, to explore and expand their age-appropriate reporting, storytelling and literacy skills.  They brainstorm ideas, write their story, create their artwork, record their audio, and then produce their movie.  EVERY STUDENT MAKES A MOVIE! They learn how math plays a role in translating a single frame/drawing into a unique movie.  The theme of their movies can range from short autobiographical stories, how-to guides, poem illustrations, science, and history topics. Their movies teach what they know, share ideas, process emotions, and tell stories. The workshops encourage communication and partnership skills important to character education goals.

Using an artist & school-defined topic or theme, the students will turn informational essays, short stories or personal poems into moving animations. STEM turns into a STEAM experience for all students who, regardless of their artistic confidence, learn to create movement with drawn elements and found objects. An animation showcase can be planned at the end of the residency to celebrate and share the Their work!

This program excels at creating a social-emotional learning environment with many opportunities for student collaboration.  The program has been successfully implemented in both in-person as well as in virtual class settings. It can be offered in multi-age classrooms as well as ESL/bilingual classrooms.

We bring the technology for your students - they supply the ideas! is supplied by the program
